Janice would like to introduce you to the gourd as a creation of fine art. The gourd is an organic vessel of endless creative possibilities. It can be carved or wood-burned like wood, painted & dyed with an assortment of mediums like on a canvas. It can be embellished with precious stones, beads, feather, leather, found objects, clay, fiber & pine needles to name a few. It can be cut & sculptured into other shapes. Her art takes on the natural form of the gourd that then becomes intertwined with other components.
Initially self-taught through the use of instructional books and videos, Janice has continually added to her skills and knowledge by seeking out classes from some of the best in the field of both gourd art and other mediums. The composite of all these experiences is evident in her unique vision and attention to detail.
