WOODWORKER - CONTEMPORARY DESIGN
JOHN REIMERS

John Reimers grew up in Los Angeles and graduated from U.C. Berkeley. He moved to Cortez in 2007, following a long career as a general contractor and site supervisor in the San Francisco Bay Area. He retired from the construction industry in 2019.
While living in the Bay Area, John developed an interest in hard-edge painting and geometric abstraction. He began to explore these styles in wood, beginning with scrap pieces from the jobsite. His current compositions are assembled from individual pieces of MDF that are cut to size, textured with a router, and then painted with acrylic. Each finished composition is clear coated with polyurethane. Most works are approximately 2 feet square.
John accepts commissions and can make larger works, but buyers should understand that these may be very heavy. Commissions can be executed as complementary pairs, triptychs, or other groupings. Compositions can also be made long and narrow—for example, to be used as a door panel or valance.
