A native of
Paris, Texas, I spent much of my childhood exploring the vast woods near my
home. Growing up in a small, isolated East Texas town and spending time with
nature has kept me in touch with my environment. I received my Bachelor of
Arts degree from East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas where I
studied to become a graphic designer. Following college, I moved to
Dallas in 1968 and have lived and worked as a graphic designer in the Dallas
area for most of my life. I received my Master of Fine Arts degree from The
University of North Texas in December of 2000.
My works are epitomized by juxtaposition of appropriated imagery such as early product labels, skewed screen images with grid patterns combined with symbolic drawings. This content is frequently accompanied by text or typography. Surfaces are often distressed or abraded to partially reveal obscured layers of imagery and text. Great emphasis is placed upon the omnipresent, often pervasive power of symbolism in our culture. Themes of connectedness, communication and remembrance of personal life experiences are inherent in my work. My style, palette, and choice of subject matter are emblematic of my Texas roots and reflect my deep appreciation for my place of origin. I currently reside and work in Plano, TX.
I am currently represented by PanAmerican Gallery in
Dallas, TX.
